Message from the President

Greetings ASNA Members,

I hope this letter finds each of you in great spirits and eager to embark on another exciting academic year! As summer break comes to a close, the entire Executive Board wants to extend our warmest greetings and a heartfelt welcome back to school. Your dedication and hard work plays an important role in ensuring our students receive delicious, nutritious meals that fuel their bodies and minds for success. I hope you truly understand the impact that your commitment and passion plays in your school community. Despite the challenges we face, Alabama's child nutrition professionals are known for remaining steadfast in the mission to nourish our students and instill healthy eating habits. Your efforts were truly commendable, and we are grateful for the positive influence you have on our students' well-being.

The start of a new school year offers a time of excitement coupled with opportunities for new experiences, new relationships, new knowledge and new skills. We hope the school year ahead is filled with just that for all members of the Alabama School Nutrition Association. The author Mark Twain is attributed to saying,

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Dream, Explore, Discover."

In reflecting on this quote, there are many takeaways. The main point being that life can be as exciting as one makes it by grabbing opportunities and seeing where they might lead you. No experience is too small or too beneath you to consider. They will add substance to your character and even if it is not part of your ultimate path, it could be a stepping stone to greater things. With this motivation, our 2023-2024 ASNA theme is Dream. Explore. Discover. This year, I challenge each of you to strengthen your involvement and engagement in ASNA as numerous opportunities await for you to grow as a member, a leader and as a school nutrition professional. Don't let these opportunities for growth and learning pass! Throughout the website, I hope you find the various exciting events and initiatives that we have planned for the coming year in ASNA. Our Executive Board team is working hard to ensure valuable programming is being provided to you- our members!

Once again, welcome back, and let us join hands in creating a memorable and nourishing school year for our students!

Respectfully,
Emma Anne Hallman, 2023-2024 ASNA State President
